The pub is lovely and the staff are all friendly. Good selection of real ales. Evening meals are great - and reasonably priced. The full English Breakfast kept us going all day. We'll be back.

Very friendly; very accommodating; excellent food; comfortable clean rooms. Stayed o/n to visit son at Winchester Army College which was literally only 10 mins (max) away from Wherwell. Hope to stay again for next visit.

We felt extremely welcome and were well looked after by the owners. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the accommodation above was perfect for our stay. We would thoroughly recommend, and had we had more time, would've stayed longer to enjoy the location. Many thanks to the owners!

Cheapest digs on offer, but exactly what we wanted - roaring log fire, pleasant staff and customers, good real ales and a magnificent breakfast. Heartily recomend it all.
Late booking......but what a little gem!!

We recieved a warm welcome upon arrival. After a few drinks in the bar we were shown to our room which was larger than expected, even for a family room. Being an old building the floors sloped in different directions and after a few drinks we found walking around the room quite funny, as it was like being on a ship! We booked dinner and glad we did, it was really good and the wine wasn't over priced! We explained we had to leave early the following day and wouldn't require breakfast, before we could say anymore the landlady suggested they make us some sandwiches/crisp/apple to take with us.....which was a lovely gesture. We have no hesitation recommending this accommodation and we'll return when marshalling again at Thruxton next year!
Excellent little hotel

Staying at this hotel/pub was a wonderful experience, the owners and staff made us feel really welcome. The double room (Bushell) was quite large & well decorated with a ver comfortable bed. The only downside of the room was that it had no ensuite. There was a fine selection of real ales at a well stocked bar and the food was superb. If you go here, trying one of their famous pies is a must. Oh and the full english breakfast was as good as I've had anywhere.
Price quality very good I will go back there

A very nice old Inn, run by highly service minded and very friendly couple and their staff. We really enjoyed our stay and wholeheartedly recommend the White Lion to all travellers passing by the beautiful village of Wherwell, to tourists planning to visit Winchester, Salisbury or Stonehenge, and hikers and fishermen enjoying the rural countryside.

Sean, Sally and the rest of the staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. They bent over backwards to offer us advice on where to go, what we could see and how to get to Winchester and Thruxton. The beautiful 17th century pub has recently been done up but maintains the beauty of it's past with a contemporary twist. Our double room was huge, clean and really lovely. It was well equiped with TV, DVD (lots of DVD's availiable to borrow at no cost), tea, coffee, kettle, hairdryer, alarm clock and towels. Our kingsize bed was wonderful - my partner and I woke up trying to find one another!! The only downside is that it isn't ensuite so you share one bathroom (bath, shower, loo and sink) and one seperate loo with sink with other guests. Don't let this put you off though, we didn't see anyone else and the staff, rooms and ambience definitely makes up for this. We ate lunch, dinner and breakfast there - the food was good - London prices. We booked through late rooms and got a slightly reduced fee which was great. A home from Home - highly recommended.

The staff were very friendly & helpful. Going to our room 'behind the bar' was novel! A very 'dog friendly' pub. Our room was spacious with a lovely view. No ensuite, but this was not a problem, as toilets & bathroom were just outside the room. The breakfast was first class, a lovely home cooked 'full English' breakfast. We have recommended it our 'dog mad' friends. We will be coming back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The White Lion at Wherwell. I can be quite picky at times but I could not fault anything! The staff were so friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we stepped through the door. We enjoyed a three course meal in the evening, as two vegetarians we had far more choice than we usually have. The bed was so comfortable and the seperate bathroom was not a problem at all. Very clean, all the facilities we required and a delicous breakfast in the morning. Smiles all round.
Family stay

Unfortunately we only stayed for one night at the White Lion. It is a lovely traditional country pub in a beautiful village. We booked the family room (we have a 9 yr old daughter). The room is nice and big and although it is directly above the bar (you actually go behind the bar to go upstairs) it wasn't too noisy. The rooms aren't ensuite but there are two bathrooms for 4 rooms, so there is no waiting. We had our dinner in the pub that evening which I can highly recommend (wholesome pub food and good value) The full english was fantastic, one of the best I have ever had. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, they even gave my daughter some bread to feed the ducks in the nearby stream. If you are looking to stay in a traditional country pub in the beautiful countryside then I recommend this one.

Arrived after very long and tiring day moving son into uni digs to find a warm welcome and lovely room. Not ensuite but bathroom close by and no problems. After refreshing nap wandered down to reserve table - loved the fact that we did not have to tie ourselves to a specific time to eat. Sampled local wine and enjoyed a good meal. The Trivial Pursuit cards were a fantastic find - bought us back to life and we spent an enjoyable evening. Long lie in and cooked breakfast certainly set us up for the day.
